Navigating the mystical forests of Hyrule has always been a challenging tradition for adventurers, and the latest iteration brings a massive twist to the formula. In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the iconic fog surrounding the Korok Forest cannot be bypassed using traditional torchlight or surface navigation. Attempting to walk directly through the misty treeline will instantly trigger a white-out screen, resetting your coordinates back to the edge of the woods.
The Secret Subterranean Entry Route
To bypass the impenetrable fog protecting the Great Deku Tree, you must shift your focus completely away from the surface world. The key to accessing the heart of the woods lies directly beneath the forest floor within the dark expanses of the Depths. Adventurers need to locate the Minshi Woods Chasm, which is positioned just southeast of the misty forest border on the surface map.
Once you dive down into the chasm, deploy your paraglider safely and chart a course heading northwest into the darkness. You should actively look for glowing lightroots to safely illuminate your path and guide your subterranean journey. Navigating this area requires sufficient brightbloom seeds to avoid the dangerous gloom patches coating the floor.
Locating the Pillar of Ascension
As you continue your journey through the dark underbelly of the forest, aim directly for the geographic center of the woods above you. You will eventually stumble upon a massive stone structure featuring an impressive, illuminated stone platform. This unique landmark perfectly aligns with the landmark ruins of the Korok community directly overhead.
Clear away any nearby monsters before standing directly underneath the middle of the smooth stone ceiling. This specific location allows you to utilize the Ascend ability, which smoothly propels Link upward through the solid rock layers. Emerging from the ground will successfully bypass the magical fog and place you directly inside the Korok Forest.
Cleansing the Great Deku Tree
Upon arrival, players will immediately notice an eerie silence filling the village as the resident Koroks are completely frozen in place. To restore the vibrant hub to its normal state, you must address the corruption plaguing the heart of the forest. Head inside the hollow interior of the Great Deku Tree and prepare for a challenging combat encounter inside the chasm below.
You will face dangerous Gloom Hands followed by a formidable phantom encounter that requires quick reflexes and proper weapon preparation. Utilizing explosive arrows and cooking meals that resist gloom damage will significantly increase your chances of survival. Defeating these dark forces successfully lifts the curse, allowing you to interact with the merchants and unlock nearby shrines.
